Day 44 - Battered in Billings

My entrance into Billings on Wednesday was noteworthy. From the time I left Custer, I heard rumblings at my route stops about an overnight storm hitting the city hard. Billings sits like a tilted bowl surrounded by seven different mountain ranges. Upon entering at the highest rim, I descended into the commercial and residential streets that comfortably blend together. However, every very block was filled with downed trees, strewn branches/leaves, and crews working to clean up the mess. Apparently, this storm was uncharacteristic for this desert town, another example of unpredictable weather seen in every region of the country. Before arriving in Billings, I did a “fly by” Pompey’s Pillar, a natural, national landmark where Clark of L&C carved his signature into the Prudential Rock-like site seen in my Strava pics. The storm did provide much needed relief to the heat in the region. My Thursday morning launch is expected to be in the 40’s, good Viking weather!
