Day 2 - Made it to The Gap!

After departing Goshen, went in search of espresso in Port Jarvis, stumbling on a place called Two Brothers Bakery and Cafe…can’t make that stuff up and had to share the pic. Then had a memorable ride thru the beautiful Delaware Water Gap National Forest. Found my first Good Samaritan along the way. In a search at a campground for water, a nice gentleman, aptly named Mark, from Sayreville NJ grabbed three bottle water from his motor home. Also pictured, Mark saved my bacon as the climb out of the park was among the hardest I’ve ever encountered. Not ashamed to say I walked my bike several times as the grades went from 5% to 13% in some places. But this allowed me to head south to an oasis at Blair Academy where our son Max attended HS. Dropped in on headmaster Peter Curren and colleague Craig Hall, followed by a visit to Max’s advisor Teddy Wenner and his family…his wife Teresa had me as a third kid in the house breaking out popsicles, fruit and other critical nourishment! Thank you for the Blair hospitality!

Anecdotally, the wider tires were instrumental today as I hit muddy trail rides and washboard roads. Achieved goal of getting over the Delaware Water Gap in NJ to near Stroudsburg in PA, eeking out a mile more than yesterday to 76+ for the day. Thank you all for continuing momentum on the campaign! Will do my best to get to each of you individually for supporting the cause. In meantime, learning as I go on how to get into a rhythm, if that is possible!
