Day 30 - In Search of Lake Wobegon

Beautiful riding conditions on Wednesday allowed me to buzz from Cambridge to Little Falls at a 16 MPH clip, making for a speedy 90+ miles. That didn’t stop me from enjoying the scenery including a stunning bald eagle hanging out on top of a large hay “wheel”. Even got the chance to check out the Charles Lindbergh’s original family house Charles Lindbergh in Little Falls, MN and an adjoining museum. Was welcomed at Lindy Scoop ice cream by the owner and her cronies. She keeps a coffee setup there for her elderly mother who enjoys a good cup every day when she visits the shop. Love that! So I got to partake in the coffee ice cream to go with my coffee. Today’s rural route took me on the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail, paved and canopied recreational trails used by cyclists and snowmobilers. Lake Wobegon, which is the fictional, rural town in Garrison Keillor’s satirical radio show “The Prairie Home Companion”, is a place where “all the women are strong, all the men are good looking, and the children are all above average”. Naturally, I haven’t found Lake Wobegon in the “Land of 10,000 Lakes”, nor do I care to. However, I did get a dose of “Minnesota Nice” in Little Falls followed by a stellar sunset after a thoroughly enjoyable northern summer day.
